To Your Health & Happiness
Did you miss our live event? You can still register and view our recorded presentation until June 30th!
Learn the background of and how to make “taato pani”, a traditional health drink, and, choela, a Nawari BBQ spice rub.
Presenters: Srijana Timilsina, Prava Adhikari and Anne Corwith
Description:
Join Srijana, and follow along, as she shows you how to make taato pani, and choela from her kitchen in Kathmandu. Prava and Anne will discuss the culture, history, and uses of these two traditional Himalayan offerings.
Prava has been treating friends and family to the flavors of choela, preparing both meat and vegetarian dishes, for summer barbeques. Choela is a traditional Newari spice rub. The Newars are an ethnolinguistic/ethnic/subgroup in Nepal with their own strong cultural, linguistic and specialized cuisine.
Anne was introduced to “taato pani” on her first trip to Nepal. Although Anne had recovered from a cold before traveling, she suffered from a persistent cough. One night her host mother presented her with taato pani. She recognized the smell of cloves and cinnamon but wasn’t familiar with the other ingredients. Taato pani has been used for centuries as a traditional health remedy throughout South Asia for various medicinal purposes such as anti-inflammatory and to boost the immune system.
